Anonymous Morris

Anonymous Morris are a brand new Border Morris dance side based in Poole, Dorset.

We're currently seeking dancers and musicians, age 18-28, to join us for our first practice session in Poole on 16th September 2010.

All dancers welcome, no previous experience of any kind required.

We welcome musicians playing almost any acoustic instrument (If you can carry it from one pub to another, then it's in. If you swear you can carry your double bass down the street, then we'll take you at your word!). Border Morris is very eclectic when it comes to music. Melodeon players are especially welcome, but if you can play anything from recorder to trombone, we'll be delighted to have you on board. We're also looking for drummers who want to add a bit of style to the proceedings.

Kit hasn't yet been decided upon, but we quite like the idea of red.

Faces will be painted, in adherence to the old Welsh Border custom of ‘guising’. The idea was that people didn't know who the dancers were. In those days, the dancers would have used lampblack to blacken their faces because it was freely available. Nowadays, we've got access to colours other than black, so we can go to town with whatever we choose.
